How Pictures Speak – Photographic Articles

Photography

The word photography is derived from the Greek words “photo,”. This would then mean light, and “graph,” which means writing. So therefore photography means writing with light.

As a type of writing, photography has a visual language. Therefore this means that the photographic alphabet is of tone and hue. Thus forming a grammar of line and form. Also it’s visual patterns are its sentences.

A photograph is therefore silently articulate, communicating its message through an arrangement of color and shape.

Language

The language of photography contains two essential elements. This therefore leads to those elements being light and the camera.

Light rays reflect off surfaces and into the camera, where light-sensitive film or a digital disk records the image.
